Mr. Rajat Gupta is chairman of WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF), and serves on its board as a key strategist in defining direction and focus of the non-profit organization. Mr. Gupta brings his considerable skills to WGF, along with his leadership associations and advisory roles to many other non-profits such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Mr. Rajat Gupta is a leading Indian-American businessman and Philanthropist who has co-founded successful world class institutions including Indian School of Business(ISB), American India Foundation(AIF), New Silk Route and Scandent Solutions. He was ranked 15th in the nation in the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology, IIT JEE. He received a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) in 1971 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1973.
Mr. Gupta joined McKinsey & Company in 1973 as one of the earliest Indian-Americans at the eminent consulting company. In 1994, he was elected the firm’s first managing director (chief executive) born outside of the US, and then was re-elected twice in 1997 and 2000. Mr. Gupta is widely regarded as one of the first Indians to successfully break through the glass ceiling, as the first Indian-born CEO of a multinational corporation (not just a consultancy). During Mr. Gupta’s tenure as head of McKinsey, the firm opened offices in 23 new countries and doubled its consultant base to 891 partners, increasing revenue 280 percent to $3.4 billion.
Mr. Anil Bhandari is currently Senior Vice President, UBS – Americas, New York, NY. He focuses on private banking and investment management services for high-net-worth clients AND provides Corporate Banking to India – Centric Corporations. He has extensive experience in handling international accounts for individuals, corporations and pension funds. Prior to joining the Wall Street firm, Mr. Bhandari was with Morgan Stanley for fifteen years as Senior Vice President and member of Chairman and Director Councils. Earlier he was with Bear Stearns for over 16 years and appointed Senior Managing Director in 1999. His experience included wealth management and work with Indian Corporates on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
Mr. Bhandari graduated from Agra University, India with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964 and received a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1969. Mr. Bhandari received a Master of Industrial Engineering in 1971 and an MBA in 1973, both from Ohio State University. In 1997. Mr. Bhandari received The 1997 IITK Distinguished Alumnus Award. Mr. Bhandari has been a speaker at Euro Money and Institutional Investor global conferences. He has chaired the 2011 Pan IIT NY Global Conference. Mr. Bhandari served on the Board, Advisory Committee and as Treasurer of American India Foundation, a 501 C(3) charity founded by President William Jefferson Clinton. He is currently chair of the WHEELS advisory Board (a 501 C3 charity) and involved with numerous other charities.
Dr. Hitendra Ghosh is President of WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF) and serves on its board as the chief executive of the operations of the non-profit organization. Dr. Ghosh has a distinguished career and has been actively involved in giving generously, his time and talent to activities of PanIIT and Capital IIT Alumni associations, as well as other organizations that promote the welfare of citizens ‘at the bottom of the pyramid’
Dr. Ghosh is Vice-President and Chief Quality Officer of Hughes Network Systems, LLC, Maryland. He is a member US-India Business Council of US Chamber of Commerce and board of the IIT Foundation and US-India Strategic Institute. He is a member of the board of Advisors of IVY venture capital, India and of the Board of Executive directors, Quest Forum, USA, an Industry body of Telecommunication companies such as AT&T, Verizon, Ericsson, Nokia, Fujitsu, Reliance, Tata teleservices, Vodafone and others.
His past achievements include receiving an outstanding Invention Achievement award from IBM, Management Excellence award from Unisys Corp. and Corporate Quality Management Award from Hughes Electronics. He has been awarded the “Pride of India” award by NRI Institute of India and Pravasi Achievement Gold medal of UK as also Distinguished Service Gold Medal from IIT-kgp and Lifetime Service Achievement Award of PanIIT Alumni, USA of which Dr Ghosh has been Co-president (2005-2006) He has also served on the Board of Directors of Tata-Unisys Corp, India.
Dr. Ghosh received B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT-Kharagpur in 1958 and PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1962 from University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois.
Dr. Ghosh will serve as Chair of the Board of Directors, presiding over meetings of the Board and other Board activities, including program planning, policy-setting, global strategy, financial oversight, and fundraising. Dr. Ghosh will also serve as President of WHEELS. In this role, he will have primary responsibility for implementing WHEELS programs, administration, and fundraising. Specific responsibilities include execution of organizational activities and goals, maintenance of communications with the Board of Directors regarding major policy setting and fiduciary board responsibilities, strategic planning, budget development and monitoring, and hiring and management of employees and volunteers to execute programs and activities.
Suresh V. Shenoy
Mr. Suresh V. Shenoy is Vice-President of Global Strategy for WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF) and serves on its board to provide valuable advice and direction for activities of the non-profit organization. Mr. Suresh Shenoy has been an active supporter of the Capital IIT and Pan IIT Alumni associations and has continued to give his time and talent to WGF as its trusted advisor.
Mr. Suresh Shenoy is Executive Vice President at Alyxtech, Inc., Inc., a Virginia based systems consulting and Technology Company. He recently completed two terms as Chairman of the National Capital region of the American Red Cross and currently serves on the boards of The Kevric Company, IMC Global Services, The Capital IIT Alumni Association and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Shenoy also serves on the TechAmerica Board of Directors, the Board of Directors for Fairfax 2015 – the biennial World Games of Police and Fire Fighters with 12,000 athletes competing from 80 countries.
His distinguished career includes being the Program Committee Chairman of the PanIIT Global Conference held in Washington, DC in 2005. Mr. Shenoy served as co-President of the PanIIT Alumni Association in North America for the 2006-2008 Term. He also represented Dranesville District on the Fairfax County IT Advisory Board for six years. Mr. Shenoy is a Fellow of the Information Management Congress (Europe) and AIIM International (USA). He has been recognized by IBM Corporation as ‘Information Champion’ for his contributions to Enterprise Content Management technologies for three consecutive years 2009-2012 and received the Distinguished Service Award from his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. In 2010, Mr. Shenoy and his brother Sudhakar, were honored by the Northern Virginia Community Foundation for their leadership and contributions to Fairfax County. He is on the adjunct faculty of the School of Information Technology & Engineering at George Mason University, where he teaches a course in Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation.
Mr. Shenoy has traveled widely throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (1972), and an MBA from the University of Connecticut (1975).
Mr. Gulab Bhavnani is Program Director and Secretary of WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF) - a 501-c-3 non-profit corporation, dedicated to social entrepreneurship initiated by Capital IIT Alumni Association, and serves on its board as Secretary and Advisor. Mr. Bhavnani has been actively participating in activities of the IIT Alumni association and Pan IIT Alumni Association since 2001, providing time and talent to promote the message and event planning for the organizations.
Mr. Gulab Bhavnani is Managing Partner of Anchor Systems Corporation, a contact center consulting and staffing firm, based in Northern VA. He is a 1966 graduate of IIT Kharagpur, India where he graduated with a Bachelors (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering, and studied at the Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, PA.
Mr. Bhavnani’s distinguished career spans commercial as well as entrepreneurial ventures. He has years of varied experience at IBM where he developed cost-effective Outsourcing solutions for large and medium sized businesses globally and received two awards for improving equipment efficiencies and four 100% club awards. Mr. Bhavnani also was the Director of IT Delivery for the American Red Cross, which awarded him two pins of Excellence. As an entrepreneur, he launched and ran a successful call center products company delivering technology and consulting services to commercial and government clients.
Mr. Raj Dave is a partner in the law firm's Intellectual Property practice and is located in the Northern Virginia office. He focuses on strategic intellectual property counseling, patent prosecution, dispute resolution, licensing, technology transactions, intellectual property mining and enforcement, reexamination and reissue practice, pre-litigation opinions and patent litigation.
He represents U.S. and foreign clients in the areas of chemistry, biotechnology, physical science, materials and polymer science, life science, nanotechnology and electronics, in matters relating to biochips, bioinformatics, biophysics, biomedical, business method, combinatorial chemistry, composites and polymers, digital health, fuel cell, holographic and magnetic media, information technology, internet and software, lasers, medical devices, micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS), optics, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and wireless devices. Dr. Davé experience includes counseling relating to ANDA challenges and generic drug litigation.
His clients include major corporations that are world leaders in technological innovation, including several Fortune 100 companies. He has extensive experience managing large patent portfolios in several diversified technologies, including business method, hardware, and software technologies. In addition, he has carried out extensive due diligence analysis on patents on gaming and financial transactions.
Prior to joining Pillsbury, Dr. Dave was a partner at Morrison & Foerster, and served as co-head of the Nanotech & Materials group at Morrison & Foerster.
Dr. Dave is the Manager of the India Project of the George Washington University School of Law, where he is responsible for organizing an annual delegation of intellectual property judges and lawyers to India. He is on the Board of Invent Now Inc., an initiative of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation.
Dr. Dave is the recipient of several technical and legal writing awards. He has made over 25 technical presentations and over 30 legal presentations at conferences and symposia in the U.S., India, China, Japan and the UK. Dr. Dave is the author or co-author of more than 30 scientific publications in the area of polymers and composite materials, and numerous legal publications. Dr. Dave is the co-editor of a book entitled Processing of Composites.
Ruyintan (RON) E. Mehta
Mr. Mehta was a serial entrepreneur in the plastics industry, who recently sold his last plastics manufacturing business in California in 2012. Over a 24 year period he started, bought, merged and sold several plastic blow molding companies in New Jersey, California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Canada that ranged in size from 5 million to 34 million in sales. Prior to starting Crystal Clear Inc., in New Jersey, his first start up in plastic blow molding in 1990, Mr. Mehta was General Manager at Combustion Engineering Environmental (now ABB) and was President of an engineering services company in Flemington, NJ called Andersen Engineering Services.
Mr. Mehta was a licensed Professional Chemical Engineer (inactive status) in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1970 and also received Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut (1972) and in Engineering Administration from the University of Utah (1974).
Mr. Mehta is the current President of IIT Bombay Heritage Foundation and the former President of IIT Bombay Alumni Association Greater New York. He is passionate about giving back to society and to his alma mater IIT Bombay. Mehta was instrumental in developing and initiating a successful Student Exchange Program between IIT Bombay and The Cooper Union, a prestigious highly regarded Engineering institution in New York City. Mr. Mehta is an active supporter of Clean Drinking Water Plants (CDWP) in remote impoverished villages in India. He is a co-chair of the Water initiative of WHEELS Global Foundation, a US non-profit started by IIT alumni residing in the US.
Mr. Mehta is an active volunteer mentor of SCORE Central Jersey, a non-profit resource arm of the US Small Business Administration. The SCORE Central Jersey Chapter provides completely free mentoring services to help guide individuals and small businesses to start, grow and prosper in New Jersey. Score Central Jersey also conducts free seminars on a wide variety of business related topics throughout the year.
Dr Khurana is an American Board of Medicine certified practicing physician (Gastroenterologist). He is a former Associate Professor of Medicine at Temple University, Philadelphia and a former Assistant Professor of Medicine and Computer Sciences at Louisiana State University. Dr Khurana is double board certified and is licensed to practice medicine in the US and India. His experience spans across a variety of healthcare systems – University, Veteran Affairs, Private hospitals, multi-specialty practice, group practice and private practice. Dr Khurana completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania with a major in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management. The rare blend of business and medicine has provided him with a unique perspective and insights on global healthcare delivery, operations and management.
Dr Khurana has served several organizations representing the professional, nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. He has served in various capacities in the Department of Veteran Affairs, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). He has been the founding president of the Greater Philadelphia chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SOPE). He is judging the submissions for the Wharton Business plan Competition (Wharton BPC) since 2009.
Dr Khurana’s research work has been cited in CNN Live, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, USA today. He has supervised NIH and National VA research studies and has 14 Research Awards, 33 Scientific Paper Presentations and 18 researched peer reviewed journal articles to his credit. He is considered a leading expert in the field of bowel disorders and has authored two books on constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. Dr Khurana has won accolades for his contributions to the fields of medicine and entrepreneurship. He has been elected as a fellow of the American college of Physicians (FACP) and the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) and the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors medical society. He received the Snider Seed Award for his Entrepreneurial project at the Wharton Business School.
Dr Khurana was elected and served as the National Treasurer for American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) in 2013-14. He is a medical graduate of the Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, India, and has served as President (2010-11) of the alumni association in the USA (MAMCOAANA). He is experienced in various challenges faced in implementing Rural health care projects and has been involved and been on the sites for the Sevak Project in Gujarat, Sankara Eye Foundation in Coimbatore and Rural Telemedicine project in Punjab, India.
Dr Khurana continues to practice medicine (Gastroenterology) and lives in Philadelphia Suburbs with his rheumatologist wife and affectionate daughter.
His experiences have equipped him with the knowledge and resources to lead the effort on the Health Tract of the Wheels Global Foundation. He is actively looking forward to partnering with individuals and organizations who are willing to enhance global health care both as charity and business model.
Dr. Manish Kohli
Dr. Manish Kohli is an oncologist, with expertise in Genitourinary Oncology, currently serving as a Professor of Oncology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine at Rochester, Minnesota. He is an alumnus of Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and continued with his residency in Internal Medicine at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Subsequently, Dr. Kohli completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and remains active in research focused on clinical applications of genetics for devising and providing customized cancer care to patients.
Dr. Kohli has multiple research awards supporting this research from the Department of Defence, National Institute of Health, Prostate Cancer Foundation among other funding agencies. His focus is to develop novel and emerging cost effective bio-engineering tools for enhancing healthcare delivery. He is currently serving as Director and co-leader of the Healthcare track of WHEELS Global Foundation, and has contributed significant innovative ideas to help propagate the mission of WHEELS.
Dr. Ajay Kothari
Dr. Ajay Kothari is President and Founder of Astrox Corporation, an Aerospace R&D company located in suburban Washington DC. His PhD and MS in Aerospace Engineering are from University of Maryland. He has been Principal Investigator or Program Manager on more than 30 contracts from Air Force, Navy, DARPA and NASA, focused on rocket and hypersonic vehicle designs, system level analysis and studies which have led to his innovative hypersonic vehicle design for the Air Force in collaboration with Boeing. He has been a pioneer in developing the Inward Turning Hypersonic Vehicles traveling up to Mach 10, and which will be able to go to Low Earth Orbit more efficiently using his Rocket Based Combined Cycle (RBCC) design. He is currently working on reusable space transportation which would be more efficient and flexible. He has over 48 professional publications in peer reviewed AIAA (American Institute of aeronautics and Astronautics) journals and various AIAA, International Spaceplanes and Hypersonics, CRASTE and JANNAF conferences in aerospace field.
He was President of his high school, was recipient of the "Best Student of the School" award for scholarship and extracurricular activities, and was also awarded National Merit Scholarship. He was conferred “ASEI-NCC Emerging Technologist Award” by ASEI (American Society of Engineers of Indian origin) in 1997, awarded the "Pride of India Gold Award" by International NRI Institute in 2007, "Engineer of the Year" award by ASEI in 2011 and was the president of ASEI National Capital Chapter from 2014-2015. He was on the board of ASEI National, was convener of their national convention in 2013, and is currently on the board of ASEI-NCC. He has been invited to speak on aerospace subjects by many entities, interviewed on television shows and his articles on space related topics have been published by various newspapers and web portals.He is a Life Member and Associate Fellow of AIAA. He is also the first Indian-American member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) for Washington-Baltimore region, having acted in a few TV shows in US as a hobby for NBC, HBO and other Hollywood and independent film productions.
Dr. Kannan M. Moudgalya
Dr. Kannan Moudgalya is a professor of Chemical Engineering, Systems and Control, and Educational Technology at IIT Bombay. He has been with IIT Bombay for more than 25 years. He was a visiting professor at the University of Alberta during 2003-04. Kannan has written four textbooks and several papers in international journals and conferences. He works in the areas of control, simulation and modelling.
Kannan is now devoting his time on spreading education on a massive scale, without quality dilution. He has been focusing on spoken tutorials, open source software systems,virtual labs and affordable tablets and laptops. He believes that it is possible to provide high quality education to all our children through a combination of education, and information and communication technologies, making India a developed country in the process.
Kannan has held the posts of Associate Dean (R&D), Head of Application Software Cell and Head of the Centre for Distance Engineering Education Programme, at IIT Bombay. He was a Member of the Standing Committee of the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), MHRD, Government of India, for five years. Kannan received the Google MOOCs Research Award for developing the offline ca- pability in Spoken Tutorials. He was nominated for the HT for Mumbai 2015 award. The Spoken Tutorial project received the best prize in the Reimagine Education Award, instituted by QS and Wharton School, in the Nurturing Employment category.
Mr. Gupta is Program Director of Education of WHEELS Global Foundation (WGF). He is also on the Board of Directors of American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin – The National Capital Chapter (ASEI-NCC), a partner of WGF. He is a firm believer of uplifting the lives of the people who are at ‘the bottom of the pyramid’ through education. Throughout his long and distinguished career, he has helped and promoted minorities and women in the corporate world.
Mr. Gupta is with the US Government as the Chief of Customer Readiness for the Department of Defense and is currently leading the efforts in modernizing the Information Technology operations for the future. Previously, he held senior management position with Lockheed Martin Corporation where he was instrumental in winning a large contract ($400M) and was responsible for running their Independent Research and Development program. Previous to this, he was with IBM Corporation for 29 years where he held several senior management positions. He was a Director in IBM Asia Pacific Headquarters at Tokyo,during 1990s, where he ran their $2B per year Systems Integration operations for the region. Mr. Gupta started his career as an assistant professor of electrical engineering with the NC A&T State University in Greensboro North Carolina. Among many awards that Mr. Gupta received during his career, he received Excellence Award, and Outstanding Achievement Award by IBM, the highest awards for management and technical achievement, respectively, for the IBM corporation. He was also awarded a fellowship by the American Society for Engineering Education for his work as an assistant professor. Mr. Gupta holds a B.Sc. from Allahabad University, a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Mr. Bindra is a senior geotechnical engineer and operations executive with a successful track record in engineering, sales, and executive management, with more than 20 years in the Civil Infrastructure and Energy Industry. Experience ranging from several multi-national companies to build and turn around assignments of more entrepreneurial ventures over the last ten years.
Mr. Bindra is currently Senior Vice President, Strategic Industry Solutions, LLC (www.sisn.com), a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner providing and implementing financial and operational software for Contracting and Professional Services focused companies. He has gained progressive experience in both private and public sectors and specializes in Growth strategies, asset management, turnaround, sales leadership, solution selling, P&L management and increasing profits, acquisition integration, contract negotiation, strategic alliances, ERP, CRM, application outsourcing, and development. In 1995, he was the recipient of the Confederation of British Industry Scholarship to train in the UK. He sits on the editorial advisory committee of the trade magazine, Geosynthetics and has published several technical papers in the US and overseas. He has chaired the 2013 Pan IIT Houston Global Conference. He is currently the President of Pan IIT USA, an IIT Alumni Association (a 501 C6) and involved with numerous other charities. A veritable globetrotter who has lived and worked in Singapore, the UK, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Mexico and in cities within the US. When Mr. Bindra lived in New Zealand, he became the first turbaned Sikh to be accepted as a commissioned officer into the Royal New Zealand Navy Volunteer Reserve. Mr. Bindra earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Construction Management in India. He has a Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi) and an MBA in Project Management and International Business from Massey University, New Zealand.
Mr. Madhu Reddy is Co-Program Director of WHEELS - Water track related projects. Madhu received a Master of Sciences (M.Sc) degree in Civil Engineering in 1974 from the IIT, Bombay. He also did an year of research work in the same Department and joined the corporate service in 1975 at the Associated Cements Ltd in their Consultancy and Expansion division. Madhu worked as Senior Scientist with the Cement Research Institute of India, New Delhi from 1978 till 1984. He then went to Canada to work for Western Canadian Petroleum for an year in 1984-85. In 1986 he returned to India and founded the Banjara Group At Hyderabad, as the Managing Director, with a cement factory at Tadioatri, in Andhra Pradesh. As a forward integration he set up a real estate and construction business at Hyderabad and Bangalore. Madhu also established an airline called VIF Airways, a regional passenger airline at Hyderabad in 1990. Ending his corporate career in 2010 he has dedicated himself to giving back and now spends time for rural water management with a few NGOs and mentoring alumni as the Chair, IIT Bombay Alumni Association and as Board member of Woxsen School of Business.
